The Environment Agency (‘EA’) for England is an agency of central Government, sponsored by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra). We usually hear about the EA when there is an emergency or a threat of disaster from environmental causes. Otherwise the staff mainly go about their business of monitoring the natural environment and applying the relevant regulations for land and marine management.
