North Hertfordshire District Council has drafted a Local Plan for Housing in North Hertfordshire through to 2031. We submitted several responses, jointly with Transition Town Letchworth, to the council’s Consultation in Nov.-Dec. 2016.

Planning Inspector Simon Berkeley BA MA MRTPI has been appointed by the UK Government to examine the draft Plan together with all responses to that consultation. He will run hearing sessions which are currently scheduled for the weeks from mid November to mid December then again from early February to 1st March. His purpose is to decide whether the Plan, along with associated documents presented to him by the council, is basically sound or not. As a distinct question, he will decide at the outset whether the council has applied the Duty to Co-operate in regard to the draft Plan.

The Inspector’s list of Matters and Issues is available: here

You are entitled to attend the hearings so as to observe them. There is also an option to submit a hearing statement on the issues to be discussed, as follows: for issues to be addressed in weeks 1, 2, 3 and 4 – by 5.00pm on Friday 3rd November 2017; for weeks 5 and 6 – by 5.00pm on Friday 12th January 2018.

Our aim is that the Local Plan should take full account of long-term sustainability. Our submissions cover the following topics within our overall remit: Building, Economy, Food, Transport, Waste and Water.

NOTE: We do not take a view for or against the proposals for development of particular sites, whether in or around Letchworth Garden City or elsewhere in the district.

You can search all of the representations online here.
